Guia Gold Mine
Description
The Guia Gold Mine, now used as a permanent museum, dates back to the 1700s and extends deep into the mountain: the tunnels allow visitors to retrace the miners’ route and bear witness to the search for gold that was carried out here for many years. The mine was closed in 1945, not because of a lack of gold, but because of the high cost of labour.
The route is completely flat and well lit, is 750 metres long and takes approximately 45 minutes. During the visit, you can see the galleries that were hand-dug over more than 200 years.
This mine is the only gold mine open to visitors in Italy and Europe that is also accessible to people with disabilities. Inside, the temperature is a constant 9°C (you are advised to bring a jacket!), with 97% humidity.
The Mine is open from 1 June to 15 September (admission requires a minimum of 3 adults plus the guide for safety reasons) and by appointment (please call: GLORIA +393403953869 or RICCARDO +393474722583, available from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 13:30 to 18:30. The Mine is open from 1 June to 15 September (closed on Mondays in June; closed on Wednesdays in September). Open every day in July and August.
