Luino

Luino, the main town on the Lombardy shore of Lake Maggiore, is a lively industrial, commercial and tourist centre, characterised by an almost Mediterranean climate.

The magnificent lakeside promenade, with its old Napoleonic harbour, is lined with impressive plane trees and features harmonious Renaissance and Baroque architecture, arcades and artisan workshops.

The Church of Madonna del Carmine, dating back to the 15th century, the 18th-century private Serbelloni Chapel with its adjoining palace, and the Civic Archaeological and Palaeontological Museum are all well worth a visit.

One of Luino and Lake Maggiore’s main attractions is the traditional Wednesday market, a large weekly street market with hundreds of stalls spread throughout the town centre and along the lakeside promenade.
