Mergozzo
Description
Mergozzo, situated on the shores of lake Mergozzo, just a few kilometres from Camping Continental, is a charming village overlooking the lake.
Fed by spring waters, lake Mergozzo is renowned for having some of the clearest and cleanest waters in Europe.
Among the main attractions of the ancient village are the centuries-old elm tree, the Romanesque church of Santa Marta, and the Antiquarium, a museum housing numerous archaeological finds dating back to prehistoric and Roman times.
Several hiking trails through unspoilt nature start from Mergozzo, such as the Sentiero Azzurro, which leads to the village of Montorfano. Here you can admire a series of military fortifications, trenches, mule tracks and military supply depots dating back to the First World War (1915–1918), forming part of the so-called “Cadorna Line”.
