Bognanco Valley
Description
The Bognanco Valley, which opens out behind Domodossola, is characterised by its lush vegetation and numerous springs of pure water.
The main centre is Bognanco, which owes its fame precisely to these waters, whose healing properties have been known since 1863. In the last century, the Bognanco Spa Centre was established within the Parco delle Sorgenti, surrounded by gardens and lush woodland.
The valley opens out into a green basin of meadows and forests, surrounded by rugged mountain ridges, where the hamlet of San Lorenzo is located.
The valley offers numerous summer trekking routes. There are also many excursions suitable for both experienced hikers and less-trained walkers, including Fornalino, Cima Verosso, Cima di Gattascosa, the three Paione Lakes, Monscera Pass and Pizzo Straciugo.
The routes pass through unspoilt and evocative natural environments, where it is not uncommon to encounter a rich variety of mountain wildlife.
